Step by Step Instructions Designed just for You
• I will wrap your tattoo with something called dermsheild. This wrap stays on for the first most critical 12-24 hours following the initial tattoo. Please do not leave this wrap on for longer than 24 hours. The active plasma that aids in “speed healing” your tattoo is only good for 24 hours. Leaving this wrap on for longer is unnecessary after that point. If you have very sensitive skin you may need to remove this wrap earlier than 24 hours and that is okay! If you see any red rash around the outer edge of this wrap/tape please remove immediately! Leaving the wrap on while your skin is having a reaction may lead to permanent scarring. It’s important to listen to your body and proceed with caution.
• The next day (usually the best morning following the initial tattoo), remove the wrap and wash your tattoo under warm/ hot water and cleanse with dial antibacterial soap to remove any excess plasma stained ink from your design. Then, let air dry or pat dry with a fresh paper towel (no bath towels as they hold onto unwanted bacteria). Then let your tattoo air out for 24 hours with no lotion. Do NOTHING to your tattoo for 24 hours from this point to assist your body in forming the base protective layer of dermis.
• After it has been 24 hours post removal of your wrap (48 hours since your tattoo appointment), apply a very THIN layer of unscented white lotion on your tattoo (lubriderm, cetaphile, aveeno, eucerine it doesn’t matter as long as there is no scent or dyes). You will repeat this process daily over the course of the next 2 weeks following the initial tattoo application. Do not use any other healing ointments such as Neosporin. Thick ointments can result in pigment pulling out of the skin of your tattoo, because you will block the natural process of a protective barrier skin naturally creates when healing wounds. It is very important for your tattoo to breathe just as any normal injury must to heal properly. If your skin runs on the oilier, only lotion once per day. If your skin runs dryer, you may need to apply lotion once in the morning, once midday, and once before bed. Use discretion as everyone’s skin is different. You will repeat this process for 2 weeks.
• I always recommend things on the dryer end than wet/overly moisturized and soggy side of skin for preventing potential infection.
• You will wash your tattoo no more than ONCE daily up to twice if you happen to sweat a lot that day. The less you do with your tattoo, the better it will heal. Trust your body to do that part of the job for you, all you need to do is aid and assist in keeping it clean and sterile without over washing. An important thing to remember, skin requires healthy microbes to heal. Over washing can leave the tattoo unprotected by your bodies natural microbe barrier and lead to an infection too.
• Sunscreen & Sun Exposure? Do not apply sunscreen if any kind on your tattoo until is has been a full 2 weeks past the initial tattoo date. Sunscreen has harsh chemicals that can interfere with the initial 2 week healing process. Keep out of the sun completely for at least 1 month following your appointment to lock that pigment in your skin during its “waxy” phase. Your tattoo must be free of scabs and peeling before entering any type of environment that involves direct sunlight. Regular sunscreen use is great post healing for keeping your tattoos vibrant for the remainder of your life.
• Working out? Please refrain from working out for a full 4 days post tattoo. If you must workout before the 2 week healing period, that is okay, just make sure to shower immediately following the activity and wash with dial antibacterial soap. Please keep in mind, gyms are full of other peoples sweat and bacteria that surly will turn into an infection if contacted.
• When can I swim again? No pools, lakes, oceans, jacuzzis, saunas, personal baths, or open bodies of water not coming straight from your faucet for a minimum of 2 weeks following your initial tattoo date. After all peeling and scabbing is complete and your tattoo is in its “waxy” phase, you are free to engage in activities again.
• Touchup? I preform touch ups on any existing tattoo I’ve done in the last 6 months free of charge. If you choose to wait past 6 months for your touchup, you will be charged an additional fee.
